Self confidence is a mental and emotional mindset that responds to our need for peer recognition and self-acceptance. It's one of the oldest and most studied concepts in psychology. It describes a positive but also proper perception of oneself and one's abilities. Thus, self-confident individuals frequently have a better idea of what they can do and are more apt to be successful in what they attempt. They will also more easily accept and understand their mistakes.

By contrast, a lack of confidence can deter you from trusting that your actions or decisions will ultimately turn out as you had planned. It can thus inhibit the buildup of decision-making skills, planning and management abilities all of which are fundamental and mandatory aptitudes in the current business world. The pre-occupation with other people's opinions of your work might also cause you to become extremely self-critical, which will distract you from things you would otherwise be perfectly able to do.

Low self confidence will also affect your social life, as people with low self confidence tend to stay in their "comfort zone" and are scared of being rejected. This is called social phobia and is commonly associated with low self confidence, but also other mental conditions like depression. People with low self confidence are afraid of the judgment of others and will avoid talking to new people, which can consequently lead to isolation and even less self confidence. Low self confidence is a vicious circle that is difficult to break.

On the other hand, because they have faith in their aptitudes, self-confident individuals can do what they feel is appropriate and do not feel the need for the approval of other people. They also inspire confidence: your friends, relatives, boss, employees or customers are more likely to trust you or what you are telling them if you look self-confident.

Many experiences can cause low self confidence. Recent research shows that education has a major effect on the development of a child's self confidence. Physical and psychological abuses during childhood are for instance the most damaging to somebody's self confidence, along with family conflicts or divorce. Overprotective parents may also contribute to a child's social phobia and discourage the independence mandatory to develop self confidence. Failures and successes, for instance at school or in one's professional life, also play a significant role: losing a job or failing a class are among the several experiences that will negatively affect your self confidence.

It is however possible to overcome those bad experiences and acquire confidence. The first step to build self confidence would be to learn to know who you are and what your strengths are. Acknowledging the fact that you are allowed not to be perfect and cannot be good in all that you do will help you build self confidence. Accepting yourself as you are is the key to gaining self confidence. But in order to improve your self confidence you also have to start taking risks and giving yourself credit for your achievements. This is very simple advice that will help you build self confidence. You might also find a great number of books that will tell you how to improve self confidence, however not all of them are reliable.

Many people have low self confidence or are only capable of gaining self confidence in one or a certain number of areas of their lives because they constantly look for other people's approval and are afraid of failing. A lot of factors, such as childhood traumas, can explain why certain people cannot enjoy the wholesome life a self confident individual could have. These persons also do not always know how to gain self confidence. But improving self confidence can now easily and effectively be achieved with hypnosis and NLP.

As we have seen before low self confidence and social phobia can be caused by bad experiences or unconscious fears that may be difficult to overcome through sheer self persuasion. Confidence hypnosis and NLP by contrast can get to the unconscious part of our brain and alter belief systems to boost self confidence. They are powerful tools that will help you address your fears and believe in yourself to develop self confidence.

Self-Confidence hypnosis has been used for decades and has shown significant results in building self confidence. Once in a hypnotized state, reaching unconscious thoughts is much easier and, through hypnotic suggestion, it is possible to replace your negative thought patterns with positive ones to boost self confidence.
