1) Store your taser as your would any other weapon, in a location locked away from children. Insure that your taser is never stored "loaded". If you decide to carry your taser in your purse or briefcase, ensure it is hidden so children will never find it. Always check local laws before bringing your taser outside of your home.

2) Never point your taser at a target if you do not intend to fire. A taser is a not a toy. You can truly hurt someone with it. If you fire your taser at an unintended target, even accidentally, you can be subject to a number of legal penalties

3) Fifteen feet is the maximum range of the tazers sold to citizens. In order to judge accurately, measure 15 feet with a tape measure and familiarize yourself with this distance. The ideal range to your target is 7-10 feet. If you fire from a closer range, the darts of the unit may not lodge far enough apart to have maximum effect.

4) A taser uses an electrical charge and that charge is fully capable of igniting flammable materials. Don't ever fire your taser near combustible or explosive substances.

5) Your taser is will make you target lose their motor control. Firing a taser at someone who is in the water is particularly deadly. They'll drown. Use your judgment. Use a taser only when you're in immediate danger. There could be severe legal repercussions if used unnecessarily.

6) Leave the front end of your taser alone. Once the cartridge is loaded keep your hands away from it.

7) Don't ignore a low battery signal. Replace them immediately. Maintain your taser in firing condition.

8) The ideal distance from your target is 7-10 feet. Never fire your taser at anyone closer than 3 feet away, as the probes may not lodge in a proper position.

9) The taser is designed to shoot from a level and upright position ( the weapon - not you) so if you want it to work, hold it properly.

10) Familiarize yourself with handling aiming your taser in a safe location. You might want to buy an extra cartridge to practice discharging your taser. Never point your taser at an object you don't intend to fire on.

11) Aim for the center of your targets chest. It is the largest area on the body and will decrease your chance of missing.

12) Once you have fired your taser and your target is on the ground, put the taser down and go. Tasers deploy small confetti type paper discs with identification information and the police will be able to trace which weapon was fired. A taser is replaceable, literally. If you fire your taser in self defense and leave and lose your weapon, the company will replace it free of charge with the right back up information. You, on the other hand are probably not so easily replaced
