Flip flops are also known by other names in different parts of the world, some names are sandals, thongs, slip slops and go ahead to name a few. The reason for flip flops being so popular is not only for their comfort but also they are generally very cheap. In many countries especially in the developing world you can find them for under a dollar.
In hotter climates flip flops are worn all through the year whether to work or just for domestic casual wears. In colder or cooler climates flip flops are more of a seasonal item, something that is put away in the winter unless you are planning to stay mostly indoors. Flip flops are treated like disposable razors when they break or wear down people generally just throw them away rather than repair them.
